Hello I was just wondering if my 2011 kona caldera would take a larger fork than the stranded 100mm recons that came with it? I was thinking about 120mm or maybe 140mm forks. Has anyone upgraded to a longer travel fork and how doses it ride?
I think the frame is the same as 2010/09 ones but I might be wrong.
Thank you, Ben

No sorry, the Caldera is drawn up around that 100mm fork. We do have the Steely setup with the longer fork and the frame geometry and tubeset built around that.

When you put a longer fork onto a frame like that you wind up with your weight pushed back and the fork held at a slacker angle than intended. When you climb the bike wanders or lifts the front wheel, when you descend the front tire washes out. And when you hit a bump the fork is held at a less than ideal angle so more energy goes into bending it vs. just compressing the sliders. That means it may not properly absorb inputs.
